Since 2020, the Citrus County general fund budget has grown from $105.6M to $182.5M — a 73% increase in only six years. Did your paycheck go up 73%?
Using normal budget growth — indexed for inflation and population — Citrus County's 2026 budget should have been around $143.2 million. Anything over that number means they wasted your hard-earned tax dollars… That's $39.3 million if you do the math.
Cut it, and a $300,000 homeowner could see property taxes fall $671 a year.
If they wanted to, Citrus County could cut that excessive spending and give you property tax relief without harming essential services.
